- Štefan Ivanco holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Faculty of Arts, University of Prešov. He worked in the Slovak NGO Center for Civil and Human Rights, where he monitored discrimination and other human rights violations against Roma in Slovakia, and advocated for measures to protect their rights towards responsible institutions. During his engagement in the NGO sector, he sought to encourage public debate on racial discrimination, segregation of Roma children in education, police violence, Roma women’s reproductive rights violations, and barriers to justice for Roma. Within his doctoral studies, he focuses on researching the liminal period of youth from excluded Roma communities during their transition from de facto segregated schools to securing employment and income. His research concentrates primarily on their relations with non-Roma institutional actors, the power asymmetries between them, and manifestations of institutional discrimination.
