Conference on Secularism and Nonreligion Coming Soon to Bratislava

From September 8–10, 2025, a unique conference on the topic of nonreligion and secularization will be held at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University, in cooperation with the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The event is organized under the auspices of the international Nonreligion and Secularism Research Network, where Dr. Juraj Majo serves on the Advisory Board. This marks the first time the conference will take place in Eastern European countries.
The conference will feature 35 presentations from nearly every corner of the globe, including a keynote lecture titled Between Godlessness and Indifference: Nonreligion in Central and Eastern Europe, Past and Present by Dr. Eva Patzelt from the Institut d’études politiques de Paris. Contributions from Slovakia will be represented by researchers from the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as well as from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava.

Following this event, the EUREL network will host a conference titled Religious Change at a Time of Recompositions in Europe: Actors, Norms, Values – New Challenges, which will take place on September 11–12, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University.
