New Book Chapter on Romani Nomadism and Modernity
In January 2026, our colleagues Elena Marushiakova and Vesselin Popov published a scholarly chapter entitled Service Nomadism and Transition to Modernity of Roma in Central, South-Eastern, and Eastern Europe in the edited volume Nomad Properties: Political Anthropologies of Nomadism from the 18th Century until Today (eds. Anna Möllers, Dirk Schuck, and Bernhard Kleeberg), published by Campus Verlag (Frankfurt/New York).
The publication is available both in print and in Open Access, making it freely accessible to the scholarly community.
The chapter was produced within the framework of VEGA project No. 2/0057/24 – Identity of Roma in Transcarpathia: Past and Present, carried out at the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, and forms part of the research activities of the Ethnic and Minority Studies cluster, with a primary focus on Romani Studies.
