Our Emeritus Colleague Associate Professor Hana Hlôšková Celebrates a Jubilee

It is an interesting coincidence that many prominent figures of our institute were born in years ending in 5. Joining the ranks of these jubilarians is our emeritus colleague Associate Professor Hana Hlôšková, who celebrates her milestone 70th birthday on July 7, 2025.
“A person with a capital P, who not only possesses knowledge that she humbly shares, but also has a tremendous soul and heart for all her protégés.” This is how her former doctoral student Dr. Katarína Király, now the deputy chairwoman of the national Slovak self-government in Hungary, described our jubilarian without hesitation.
We would add that Associate Professor Hana Hlôšková is a leading figure in the field of ethnography and folklore studies in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In her scientific and pedagogical work, she focused on the study of historical folklore traditions, collective and individual historical memory, oral history, issues of folklore genres, and the history of folklore studies and folklorism in Slovakia. She worked at the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences from 1980 to 2010 and again from 2020 to 2022.
A special issue of the journal Etnologické rozpravy 3/2025 is dedicated to the jubilarian. On this occasion, an interview by Lucia Ditmarová with H. Hlôšková titled Hana Hlôšková – A Jubilee Interview was published, as well as Greetings to Hanka Hlôšková from the Moravian Side by J. Pospíšilová and M. Válek.
The staff of the institute warmly congratulates Associate Professor Hlôšková on her life’s jubilee and wishes her continued good health and many more years filled with inspiration!
