The ancient city of Pressburg, known in the 19th century also by its official name Pozsony, the city of coronations for 18 monarchs of the Austrian monarchy as Hungarian kings, was named by the Slovak name Bratislava in 1919.
It marks the beginning of the period through which we want to guide the reader. Through the turbulent years of the 20th century, but also the transition into the early years of the 21st century, where the problematic social processes following the Velvet Revolution in 1989 were winding down. A brief overview describes the main stages in the development of the city from its incorporation into the Czechoslovak state to the present day.
