The monograph represents an introduction to an important issue that is not sufficiently explored in Slovakia. We present the results of the work of the scientific team of the Institute of Ethnology SAS, which worked within the project VEGA 2/0086/14 Family history.
Intergenerational transmission of representations of political and social changes. In their texts, the authors of individual chapters analyze various aspects of communication and relations between generations in contemporary Bratislava families, placing their knowledge in a more complex framework of European research. The conclusions they reached are clear: generations of parents, children and grandchildren need each other. They want and need to cooperate at the level of society, community or family, regardless of whether they live in the same household or live separately. Each generation brings its own experiences, skills, and emotions to the joint relationship. A functioning society and family is the result of this shared diversity.
The authors consider the greatest challenge for future research to be capturing the ambivalence of relationships and communication between generations in connection with conflicts between them. Their findings point to interesting trends and at the same time open up other questions that will need to be explored.
