47th Annual Conference of the Gypsy Lore Society in Paris has concluded
The 47th annual conference of the Gypsy Lore Society took place from September 24–26 at Campus Condorcet in Aubervilliers, Paris. The event with more than 130 participants from around the world, was organized in collaboration with the Institut des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), the Institut Convergences Migrations (ICM), the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and FNASAT Gens du Voyage – Médiathèque “Matéo Maximoff”. IESA SAS co-published the book of abstracts.

Opening Speech of the President of the Gypsy Lore Society, Tatiana Zachar Podolinská
The annual Gypsy Lore Society conference was opened on Wednesday, September 24, by its president, Dr. Tatiana Zachar Podolinská, who focused her speech on aspects of Romani studies in relation to artificial intelligence, as well as the issue of digital deprivation often faced by Roma communities. In her speech, Dr. Zachar Podolinská emphasized the urgent need to address how artificial intelligence impacts Roma communities, particularly through algorithmic bias and digital exclusion.

Monika Vrzgulová at the IOHA 2025 Conference in Krakow and the Launch of Her New Book
The 23rd conference of the International Oral History Association (IOHA), entitled Re-Thinking Oral History, was held in Krakow from 16 to 19 September 2025. Our colleague Monika Vrzgulová was among the speakers at this event. A highlight of the conference was the presentation of her new book, Oral History and the Holocaust in Slovakia: Selective and Contradictory Memories, published by the renowned publisher Palgrave Macmillan.

Outstanding Journal Publication Award for Andrej Belák
Our colleague Andrej Belák was awarded the Outstanding Journal Publication 2024 prize by the Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences on 16 September 2025. He received this recognition for his article Social Mechanisms Supporting Poor Health among Excluded Roma: New Insights and Implications for Practice from Four Ethnographic Studies in Slovakia, published in Social Science & Medicine. We are proud of this success and warmly congratulate him!
