The 9th edition was organized by our Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV, v.v.i) in cooperation with the Department of Romani Studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague.

Elena Marushiakova Wins the 2024 Science and Technology Award
Our colleague, Elena Marushiakova, was awarded the 2024 Science and Technology Award in the Personality of Science and Technology category on November 15, 2024, for her internationally acclaimed scientific research in the field of Romani studies and the history of Roma as an ethnic minority in Europe. The award is announced by the Ministry of Education, Research, Science, and Youth of the Slovak Republic and organized by the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information. Congratulations!

From November 11 to 13, 2024, our colleague Ľubica Voľanská facilitated a seminar organized by the Center for Traditional Folk Culture, intended for future collaborators disseminating knowledge about the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event focused on the functioning of the Convention, exploring the opportunities it offers for the protection and promotion of living heritage, and preparing nominations for lists of intangible cultural heritage.

The new publication by Tatiana Zachar Podolinská, Ethical Challenges in Ethnology and Anthropology: The Case of Slovakia (Late 20th and 21st Centuries)
IESA SAS has published a new work by Tatiana Zachar Podolinská, which focuses on reflecting ethical approaches and the formation of ethical standards in ethnology and social anthropology. The aim of the publication is to introduce Slovak readers to the discussion on the issues of ethical research designs in the social sciences, including a brief historical context of ethics and research integrity in ethnology and social anthropology in the 20th and 21st centuries, with emphasis on Slovakia.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, the National Design Awards 2024 were presented at the Nová Scéna Theatre. In the Poster and Visual category, Matúš Hnát received the award for his poster citylight campaign for the 9th Bratislava Book Festival BRaK 2022 with the theme Not Afraid to Not Grow.
