Call for Papers for Slovenský národopis/Slovak Ethnology 4/2026

The editorial board of Slovenský národopis / Slovak Ethnology has announced a call for papers for a thematic English-language issue (vol. 75, no. 4) entitled Between the Living and the Dead: Ethnological Perspectives on Communication with the Dead. The issue focuses on ethnological, anthropological, and interdisciplinary perspectives on communication with the dead, relationships between the living and the dead, and their significance in diverse cultural and social contexts..

The deadline for abstract submission is 28 February 2026, and the deadline for final manuscript submission is 30 June 2026. Peer review and editorial processing will take place from July to November 2026. The issue will be published in December 2026.

Petra Hamer (Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana) a
Michal Uhrin (Department of Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava; Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana).

The aim of this issue of Slovenský národopis/Slovak Ethnology is to examine the different types of interaction between the living and the dead, broadly defined and encompassing both intentional and unintentional communication with the spirits of the dead, both familiar dead and impersonal ghosts, through both collective and private practices.
