Mgr. et Mgr. Art. Jaroslava Panáková, PhD. defended her PhD degree in the sociology of culture and spiritual life at the Faculty of Sociology of St. Petersburg State University. She graduated from the Film and Television Faculty of the AMU in Prague, majoring in documentary cinema. She worked as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, Germany and at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris, France, and as a lecturer at the Institute of Social Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava. She currently works as a researcher at the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She conducted her field research in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, the Russian Far East, and Slovakia. Her major research interest is sensory anthropology, especially visuality and olfaction. She has extensive experience in visual and experimental methods. She created a series of anthropological films about the people of Chukotka (2005, 2009, 2015).
