Project description
The project builds on the ERC grant RomaniInterbellum, which uncovered the history of Roma as an integral part of modern European history and highlighted their active participation in shaping social and political developments. Roma are not merely passive recipients of policies but also active agents in shaping their own lives. Nevertheless, their contribution to history remains little known—both to the majority society and to Roma themselves.
The aim of the project is to make the findings of previous research accessible to a wider audience, in particular to Roma communities themselves. It will use information and communication technologies to create a simple and widely accessible application that presents historical facts about Roma in a clear and engaging manner. At the same time, it will provide “living” knowledge of their own history through stories and examples drawn from tailored local exhibitions. The project seeks to challenge stereotypes and foster greater understanding between Roma and the majority society.

Project Results
The digital platform Roma Heritage Handbook was developed within the PoC – Seal of Excellence project and the research grant eHISTORY OF ROMA EMANCIPATION, 09I01-03-V08-00001, funded by NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic.
The Roma Heritage Handbook transforms academic knowledge generated within the RomaInterbellum project into an accessible digital platform dedicated to Roma history and heritage. Its aim is to communicate historical knowledge to wider Roma communities, specialist audiences, and the general public through modern ICT tools and user-friendly digital content.
The platform promotes an understanding of Roma as active participants in European history. At the same time, it contributes to challenging stereotypes, strengthening social inclusion, and supporting Roma communities by raising awareness of their historical contributions.
