During the preparation of this publication, three scientific fields met – demography, or more precisely demogeography – statistics and cartography.
The main goal of the authors of the publication is to bring a new, hitherto unknown picture of the population of one of the traditional areas of Slovakia – Záhorie. They used an important, but often especially in homeland study literature, omitted scientific source, such as the results of regular censuses, and later censuses of people, houses and flats. The main and only source of knowledge on which the authors based their work is the published results of the Hungarian census, which took place in 1910. The results of the census create a different but equally interesting picture of the population, as provided by historical or ethnological sources. They prepared it in an equally unconventional way, using cartographic processing of selected statistical indicators, while each map is accompanied by a brief text with more detailed statistical data and information. The publication thus acquired the character of a regional thematic atlas, as well as an unusual form of presentation in homeland study literature.
